The Forward Controls Design ASF-50 Ambidextrous Safety Selector is a short-throw semi-automatic safety designed for compatible AR-15 and M16-pattern lower receivers. Instead of the traditional 90-degree rotation from SAFE to FIRE, the ASF-50 uses a 50-degree throw, allowing quicker selector movement with less thumb travel. This version uses standard non-offset levers, which can be installed on either side of the selector center. Forward Controls Design uses longitudinal serrations on the lever surfaces to provide positive traction while allowing the shooter's finger or thumb to move naturally across the lever during manipulation. The ASF was developed as a duty-oriented safety selector with a strong lever-to-center interface and minimal unwanted movement. Its levers are retained by heavy-duty 420 stainless steel roll pins rated at 800 lbf, while tight machining tolerances help maintain a solid feel between the selector center and levers. Forward Controls Design also incorporates angled flats into the lever design to help reduce snagging when the selector is in the SAFE position.
