Installation of the extractor in the springfield Prodigy requires precise steps for optimal performance and longevity. Begin by loosening the right-side cover plate screw, then proceed with the installation. Once the extractor is seated, securely tighten the screw for a firm fit and proper functionality. Our extractors are made from superior-grade steel, an advancement over the materials used in 1911 when the original 1911 pistol was first manufactured. Enhancements in manufacturing include advanced alloys, precision-controlled furnaces, vacuum heat treatment, State-of-the-art tooling and finite element analysis, resulting in a highly reliable and durable extractor. During operation, the extractor engages with the relief groove on the ammunition casing with each shot. Traditional designs often suffer from hook dulling due to constant impact, leading to tension loss and potential jamming. We have reduced the distance from the bolt face to the extractor hook and our extractor is machined at an acute angle for a larger surface area to securely engage the casing. Recognizing that right angles are a common weak point, our design incorporates radii on both sides to enhance strength and durability. The hook is precisely machined with a specialized cutter, resulting in a clean radius in the inside corner, a common failure point in other extractors. The extractor undergoes vacuum heat treatment, providing exceptional spring properties and maintaining tension for over 70,000 rounds.
