The solution effectively eliminates heavy rust, scale and bluing without harming expensive firearms or components, as it targets the rust rather than the base metal. It is highly effective on both steel and cast iron, producing no hazardous fumes and avoiding hydrogen embrittlement. The pH-neutral formulation ensures it does not damage clothing or work surfaces. It is safe for softer metals such as brass, copper, zinc and aluminum, eliminating the need to remove inlays, sight beads or soldered ribs prior to immersion. This highly concentrated liquid is cost-efficient, with one gallon of Brownells Steel White diluting with water to produce up to 20 gal of a safe, economical rust and bluing removal solution. It removes light rust and bluing in as little as five minutes, with longer immersion recommended for heavier rust or scale. The solution is effective at room temperature and can be heated to 120 deg F - expedite rust removal.
