The solution is designed to effectively remove heavy rust, scale and bluing from firearms and components without causing damage to the base metal, as it specifically targets rust. It works efficiently on both steel and cast iron, producing no hazardous fumes and preventing hydrogen embrittlement. Its pH-neutral formulation ensures that it does not harm clothing or work surfaces and it is safe for use on softer metals like brass, copper, zinc and aluminum, eliminating the need to remove inlays, sight beads or soldered ribs before immersion. This highly concentrated liquid is cost-effective, with one gallon of Brownells Steel White diluting with water to create up to 20 gal of a safe and economical rust and bluing removal solution. It can remove light rust and bluing in as little as five minutes, with longer immersion times recommended for more severe rust or scale. The solution is effective at room temperature and can be heated to 120 deg F - speed up the rust removal process.
