The process involves a straightforward apply-and-remove technique that effectively extracts embedded grease and oils from any oil-finished or oil-soaked gun stock. This method is particularly beneficial for military stocks. It employs the same technique outlined in traditional gunsmithing literature and remains equally effective today. To execute this process, create a thin paste using Whiting combined with methanol, TCE, acetone or toluene. Apply the paste to the stock and allow it to dry and darken as it absorbs the oil, then brush it off. Gentle warming can accelerate the process. Repeat the procedure if necessary and proceed to raise dents, sand and finish as usual.
