The SMR name indicates that the rifle is set for a single caliber, lacking the interchangeable barrel capability of the original MRAD. Additinally the stock is fixed (non-folding). This leads to a slimmer rifle package that is 2.5 lbs lighter than the original MRAD. It comes chambered in .308 Winchester with a 17 inch barrel.
