NRR Ratings
Noise Reduction Rating: higher is better. Indoor ranges need NRR 25+, outdoor 20+ minimum.
Passive vs. Electronic
- Passive (foam plugs, muffs): Reliable, cheap, always work
- Electronic: Amplify conversation, cut off at gunshot. Worth the investment.
Doubling Up
Indoor ranges and large calibers: use plugs AND muffs for maximum protection.

ANSI Z87.1+ rated or MIL-PRF-31013. Regular sunglasses are NOT sufficient.
